South Korea: Government restructuring and ICT policy in Korea

The incoming administration started to unveil information regarding the restructuring of government bodies. Among the expected changes was the establishment of a new Ministry of Future, Creation and Science, which regulator Korea Communications Commission appeared likely to be moved under, potentially with its role reduced with regards to the promotion of broadcast and promotion matters, and its focus limited to regulatory work in communications and IT sector. A Vice-Minister level official was expected to lead the ICT department under the new Ministry. Parts of the Ministry of Knowledge Economy and the Ministry of Public Administration and Security might be affected as well.

  • Thailand: 1800MHz band reallocation approved in principle by telecoms committee +

    An auction of the returned spectrum Regulator NBTC approved a proposal to reallocate spectrum in the 1800 MHz band after the expiration of existing build-transfer-operate (BTO) concessions in Sep 2013 and the spectrum returned by the private operators. An auction of the returned spectrum was tentatively set for the third quarter of 2014. The regulator intended to package the reclaimed frequencies into 4G-suitable licenses. A Read More
